Sodium Benzoate is widely used as a preservative for cosmetics, pharmaceutical and food/beverage formulations.?Benzoic acid, or?NaC7H5O2, is considered to be primarily an anti-fungal, but?also shows some activity against bacteria.?

It is the sodium salt of benzoic acid and exists in the form of white powder/granular solid and is water soluble. Often combined with Potassium Sorbate in low pH products, it provides a synergistic preservative effect against yeast and mould.
